The River Stop interpretive center at Lion's Park in Rifle has a vibrant new look
Completed in 2026, the River Stop mural was designed and painted by acclaimed local muralist Maria Beam and transforms the building into a colorful celebration of the Middle Colorado watershed. Located adjacent to Lion's Pond and the Colorado River, River Stop serves as the Middle Colorado Watershed Council's headquarters and a welcoming learning and gathering space for youth and adults, residents and visitors alike.
Inspired by the ecosystems of Rifle Creek and the Colorado River, the mural features whimsical, layered artwork highlighting the native plants, fish, birds and wildlife that make this region unique. The installation brings color, character and conservation messaging to one of Rifle's most visible community spaces, inviting visitors to connect with the rivers and landscapes that sustain our communities.
The Middle Colorado Watershed Council extends its sincere gratitude to Alpine Bank and EcoPoint for making this project possible through their generous support. Their investment in River Stop helps create an engaging community space where residents and visitors can learn about watershed health, native ecosystems, water conservation and environmental stewardship.
